(Beginners should not practice this asana).

Vrischika is the Sanskrit word for scorpion. This posture resembles a scorpion with its tail arched above its head ready to sting its victim. The Scorpion, which is an advanced posture promotes balance and brings harmony to the body and the mind. In the Scorpion position the hands are kept apart and the head is lifted up. The weight of the body rests on the elbows, while the hands provide extra stability.

This posture provides maximum stretch to the neck, chest, spine and the abdominal muscles. The entire spine is vigorously toned and remains healthy. It strengthens the arms, shoulders, back and fully expands the lungs.

Practice of this asana increases blood flow to the brain and pituitary gland, revitalizing all body’s system. It also increases circulation in the lower limbs and the abdomen, and tones the reproductive organs. The Scorpion combines many of the benefits of the Headstand (Sirshasana) and the Wheel (Chakrasana) pose.

You can come into the Scorpion in one of two ways:

1) By kicking up into the posture with head lifted (for more athletic person), or

2) By coming into it from the Headstand.

If you are coming into Scorpion from the Headstand do not delay, because coming into Scorpion after being in the Headstand for more than a few seconds creates excess pressure in the arterial circulation to the brain.

Although the Scorpion pose gives us many benefits, in some health conditions this pose is not recommended to be performed.

Three important reasons (out of many) not to do Scorpion:

1) If you have glaucoma, detached retina, or other eye disorders that are aggravated by pressure avoid this pose.

2) Do not do this asana if you have high blood pressure or heart palpitations.

3) In case of suffering from vertigo do not practice this pose. Caution: Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts or concerns regarding the suitability of this pose for you.

Issued in the interest of people practicing Hatha Yoga by Subodh Gupta, Yoga Expert based in London.

Mr. Subodh Gupta, a Corporate Yoga Trainer has conducted more than 500 workshops on Yoga and Stress Management. In a Sanskrit language ‘Vasistha’ means ‘Most Excellent Sage’ and is the name of a sage in the yoga tradition.

The Side Plank is also called the One Arm Balance posture as it involves balancing on one arm and the side of one foot. To keep the posture balanced the torso and legs must be aligned at a 45-degree angle with the floor.

The full version of the Side Plank posture, where the top leg is raised perpendicular to the floor is very difficult for most beginners. The modified version with both legs kept together is suitable for all levels of students.

The Side Plank is a very powerful arm and wrist strengthener. Regular practice of this posture makes the leg muscles supple. It strengthens the shoulders, abdominal muscles, buttocks and tones the lower back. The back of the legs become stretched.

The Side Plank posture improves nervous balance and builds focus and concentration. By the practice of this posture stamina, determination and will-power are enhanced.

The Side Plank is a quite powerful and strengthening posture with lots of benefits to a practitioner. However, in some health conditions this posture is not recommended.

Three important reasons not to do the Side Plank:

1) If you have injured your wrist do not practice this posture, until healed and discussed with your doctor.

2) In case of chronic or recent arm or shoulder injury avoid this posture.

3) If your ankle was injured do not attempt this posture.

Caution: Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts or concerns regarding the suitability of this posture for you. It is highly effective for strengthening the legs, buttocks, abdomen, knees and the ankles. The leg strength is gained from balancing on one leg.

The Ardha Chandrasana stretches the groins, hamstrings, calves, shoulders, chest, and the spine. It improves coordination and sense of balance. It helps relieve stress and improves digestion.

You are not ready for the Half Moon posture if your body and top shoulder are dropping forward. Use a support (at first use a chair, then once you are comfortable with the chair use a box that is lower than the chair), until your body is strengthens enough to hold a beautiful and straight Half-Moon posture.

When you are ready to reach down and up simultaneously, you will reintegrate parts that feel separate from the whole and recognize that the body is a whole made of parts that are all aware of each other.

Note: If you have any neck problems, do not turn your head to look upward; continue looking straight ahead.

Although the Half Moon posture has many benefits, in some health conditions it should not be practiced.

Three important reasons not to do Half Moon posture:

1) Do not practice this posture if you have hips injuries.

2) If you have low blood pressure, avoid this posture.

3) In case of shoulder injury do not attempt this posture.

Caution: Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts or concerns regarding the suitability of this posture for you. I saw doctor after doctor but no one could tell me what was wrong with me.

I decided I try like many to self-heal myslef and tried everything I could get my hands on; herbs and vitamins, tonics and cleanses, massage, acupuncture, Reiki, Rolphing, Tai Chi, all promising optimum health. But it's when a friend invited me to partake in a hot-yoga session that my health and life eventually changed!

So what is Hot Yoga you ask? Well although Yoga may be a common phrase around the households of the world, rarely do people really know what it is.

Yoga has many different types and practices, and the one that really impacted my health is “Hot Yoga”. This is the nickname for Birkram yoga. This type of yoga was named after its creator, Bikram Choudury. The reason it is called hot yoga is because this form of yoga is practiced in hot rooms where the rooms are normally at an average temperature of 115 degrees Fahrenheit. This form of yoga focuses on balancing and stretching and is also used to create pressure in your body. This pressure is created by blocking the circulation and blood flow in your body with your stretching and then feeling the blood rush through your veins with the release of your stretch. You can feel your veins being flushed out and cleansed. This is one of the main points of hot yoga.

Hot yoga has 26 different poses for you to practice. And the reason that this is performed in a hot room is so that your entire body is warmed up which allows you to work deep into your muscles and tendons. This helps to heal and exercise your body inside and out. This type of yoga, like many others, is great for decreasing any chronic pains that you may have and even maintaining the health that you already have. With hot yoga you can reduce stress, lose weight and much more. You will find yourself in great physical and mental health by practicing hot yoga.

People tend to imagine yoga as something that is hard and painful, but you'd be surprised at how different it is to practice yoga in a hot room. The heat allows you to go deep into the yoga pose and saves your body from feeling any pain. You begin begin with the standing poses, backbends, forward bends, and then twists and once you reach the last of the 26 poses you feel like you have accomplished something amazing, which you have. Each of these poses are done twice and held for a certain amount of time. Depending on whether you are a beginner or a professional with yoga, these times will differ so that you do not injure yourself and you are familiar with the process. Each of these poses does not only work your muscles and limbs, but it also works on your organs and nervous system. Because hot yoga promotes sweat it's the perfect way to eliminate your inner toxins!

There are a few tips that you need to be aware of before you begin your hot yoga practice. This type of yoga includes an extreme amount of sweating. This means that it would be best for you to wear as little clothing as possible and clothing that you would be comfortable sweating in. Also because of all this sweating, it is important to drink plenty of water before beginning your hot yoga session.

If you are searching for your hot yoga studio there are a few things that you should look for. There are many hot yoga studios that are not certified by Bikram himself. This means that they are not authentic and may not follow the proper procedures. Before you sign up for any classes, you need to ensure that the studio has been certified by Bikram. This will ensure that you are getting the proper instruction that you require. Hot yoga is a great alternative method of healing and can help you make that healthy connection between your body, mind and soul. Yoga of all kinds can help you achieve this connection, but hot yoga does this in a more obvious and powerful way.

If you're already interested and curious about Yoga and are looking to start I highly recommend you try the cleansing power of Hot Yoga!

Fuel your mind, body and soul and come get the facts on your health and wellness, nutrition and weight loss, stress and anxiety management and self improvement at Health And Wellness Center

I Almost Stopped Yoga for this… til I found It's Still Yoga

Has anyone heard of Hindu-Push ups?

If you haven’t, boy have I got news for you. Quite simply, they work (they almost made me forego yoga till I found it was actually Yogic) and you need to check them out.

In doing research for an article I wrote a while back concerning Yoga and Calisthenics, I stumbled on a unique form of an upper body exercise known as Hindu-Push ups. Immediately, I was intrigued by the name as I knew anything “Hindu” will inevitably be from India and as such may be related to Yoga.

I clicked on the associated link and came across a description of a totally different kind of push up. Now, although I’m big into exercise and health, one exercise I never really cared too much for is doing push-ups, I just never liked them and only did them occasionally out of necessity.

However, these Hindu Push ups seemed different and the benefits associated with them actually sold me to try a few out on the spot.

Now if an exercise inexplicably, puts a smile on your face while doing it, makes you breathe deeper (which is always good) and strengthens the entire body while making sure you don’t get all stiff with zero flexibility, I think it deserves my vote as well as anyone else’s. (These by the way were all the reasons I picked up Yoga)

Well, that’s what the Hindu-Push ups do.

Here is the technique and like me, after reading this next paragraph, take a pause and try 2-3 out right quick.

-Get on all fours.

-The starting position is with legs spread wide and butt up in the air.

-From there, bend your elbows as in a regular pushup, bringing your back down in a circular arc

-Straighten your arms and end up with your chest up and your hips almost touching the ground.

When done properly and combined with deep breathing (breathing in on the way down and exhaling-looking up) Hindu pushups build amazing lung power as well as incredible upper body strength and endurance. They also improve flexibility in the shoulders and hips as well as the upper and lower back.

Now, when I personally got so intrigued by this exercise, I put 2 and 2 together and it dawned on me that

1. These are “Hindu” Push-ups right? So they must be from India.

2. The starting point is ‘Downward Facing Dog” and the ending point is ‘The Cobra Pose” and its execution is so similar to positions 6-8 of the Sun Salutations…

These factors considered, I concluded that this is simply well combined Yoga poses in motion so I can get the best of both worlds: Yoga (that I love) and Calisthenics (with its push-ups…which I can only tolerate).

That said, just like I wrote in another article, if my schedule doesn’t permit me to do all the Yoga poses I’d love to do for the day, I just simply do the 24+ rounds of sun salutations, the corpse pose and these Hindu-Push ups.

In addition I alternate this combination of exercise now and still feel like I’m pretty much doing Yoga, maybe different styles a day. The main factors are that I’m getting my exercise, I love what it is and it is working great for me.

You should try it out and see how it works for you but trust me, with at least the Sun Salutations (Yoga’s warm up) and These Hindu Push-ups (2 yoga poses in motion), my friend you can’t go wrong for a total body workout again through Yoga.

In Friendship,

Foras Aje is an independent health researcher and founder of Bodyhealthsoul.com For more Yoga tips and information on Yoga for beginners stop by his website today.

Yoga: Three Reasons You Should Not Do Yoga Posture -- Full Boat

The Full Boat – (Paripurna Navasana)

This posture resembles a boat viewed from a side, hence the name.

The Boat is a challenging posture that can be quite stressful and difficult to accomplish. Because of that it can restrict the breathing or develop a habit of holding the breath. Learning to breathe deeply and fully in this posture will revitalize the body (by bringing in more oxygen per breath) and help to eliminate toxins and waste products from the body.

In the Boat posture it is important to balance the weight on the pelvic bowl. If you have limited hip flexibility because of the tight hamstrings, keeping the back straight will be a real challenge.

Beginners: Do the Boat posture with the back rounded as it is safer and it does not require as much hip flexibility as the Boat with back straight.

The Boat posture strengthens the abdomen, hip flexors, and the spine and is often presented as an abdominal strengthener. But more importantly this posture strengthens the deep hip flexors that attach the inner thigh bones to the front of the spine.

This posture stimulates the kidneys, thyroid gland, intestines, and improves digestion. It is good stresses relieve exercise.

The Boat posture has many benefits; however, there are some health conditions where this posture should not be practiced.

Three important reasons (out of many) not to do Boat:

1) During pregnancy avoid this posture as it compresses the abdomen.

2) If you are suffering from headaches do not attempt this posture.

3) If you have upset stomach or diarrhea do not practice this posture because of the compression of the abdomen.

Caution: Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts or concerns regarding the suitability of this pose for you. The reader of this article should exercise all precautions before deciding to attempt this posture and the responsibility lies solely with the reader and not with the site or the writer.

Issued in the interest of people practicing Hatha Yoga by Subodh Gupta, Yoga Expert based in London.

Mr.Subodh Gupta, a Corporate Yoga Trainer has conducted more than 500 workshops on Yoga and Stress Management. Yoga has proven to give beneficial rewards to millions of people in helping them to keep in shape while at the same time assisting them to lead a healthy lifestyle. Your health and yoga is a match made in heaven. Yoga Exercises and the people who practice regular routines are finding it easier to cope with stress on top of easing body aches and pains.

Times have changed dramatically from the days of yesterday - in the days gone by life was a struggle for families - but some how they coped with the illnesses that plagued and terrorised their well being. In those days you never seen a jogger a treadmill or come to think of it any form of exercise like yoga. The only thing that the modern world has in common from the days of the notorious Jack the ripper is the plague. Citizens today are plagued by stress brought on by pressure from work commitments to running the home and much more. Why do we put up with the torment of coping like the people of yesterday who were a lot less fortunate than ourselves - where their options to help reduce any health risks were zilch?

Yes changes have dramatically altered but in our best interest where health matters is a major concern.

Yoga Exercises do go back to ancient times but why did so many poor unfortunate urchins die from cholera etc while trying to pick a pocket or two. The answer to that is there was no awareness programme administered on how to stay healthy and fit. (Which may have helped save lives?) Could this be the reason why so many children have been introduced to Yoga Exercises by their parents in the 21st century?

Yoga exercises for children start with simple and easy moves - yoga moves and poses for kids are normally named after animals to make it more fun as well as interesting. For example the butterfly pose is very popular among the children - this exercise includes where the child will sit with their knees bent leaning down towards the floor and the soles of the feet slightly touching. Parents are becoming more involved with health maintenance procedures in keeping their children fit and healthy.

By enlisting your kiddies to join local yoga classes you have just thrown them a lifeline where they will learn more on body awareness. One of the main reasons for introducing a child to the world of yoga is - obesity. Some children take to yoga exercises like a duck to water and pick up quickly on the understanding as to why they are performing such exercises. But then you have those who struggle to come to terms with their exercise and have no idea to what rewards can be gained. What really matters is - as long as the kiddies are enjoying themselves then that is one rewarding result in itself.

Later in life when the child is fit and healthy - it is then that you will find the child`s perception of the whole yoga experience will answer their question as to why mummy and daddy did what they did and that was to send them to practice yoga exercises.

Yoga is helping people the natural way to ease stress/pain. Beneficial results from practising yoga is peace of mind.

100% fit in mind body and soul is what healthy living is all about. With yoga you claim what is rightfully yours control. http://www.want2yoga.com Take steps now to move on with your life http://www.allaboutonlineeducation.com

Yoga Classes or Yoga DVDs - Which Is Best To Start With

There are various DVDs and videos on yoga, usually with an instructor who takes you through many different exercises and breathing techniques. Although they can be great in the sense that you can practise in the comfort of your own home and fit yoga around your usual routine, a good teacher can make a huge difference in how well you succeed. DVDs and videos are great as supplementary materials later on when you are more confident and have learnt and received guidance from a teacher.

There are many different types of yoga and many styles of teaching. Shop around and find a yoga type and teaching style that best fits your needs. You should also consult your physician, and let your teacher know if you have any health problems.

How to find a good Yoga teacher?

Finding a good yoga teacher is like finding a good doctor or hairdresser-you have to ask around and then try out a few different people. Also, ask the instructor plenty of questions:

Is the yoga being taught vigorous or gentle?
What is a good class time for beginners?
Should I bring anything, like a yoga mat, or is that supplied?
How much is each class?
Where was the teacher trained? (Most teachers should have 200 to 500 hours of training.)
How long has the teacher been instructing?

A good teacher will try verbal instruction before using hands-on adjustments. Demonstration by a teacher should only be done when is necessary. A teacher performing poses can't possibly watch what you are doing. The class is for you the student. You need a teacher who can react to your individual needs and guide you in to the correct poses. Asking before class about prior yoga experience, injuries, etc is an indication that the teacher is attentive to your needs.

An important aspect of yoga is that it is non-competitive. Students work at their own ability level, being sure to respect the body and its limitations. You should never go beyond what is comfortable and reasonable and a good yoga teacher will help you determine what is appropriate for you in each pose.

Classes can also be a fantastic way of meeting new people in a friendly relaxed environment.

Rose Reynolds provides more information on starting yoga on her website.

Yoga Guide For Pregnant Women: Efficacy of Prenatal Yoga

Pregnancy is an all together different physiological as well as psychological experience for women and for particularly those who happen to be on the family way for the first time. That's when Prenatal Yoga comes handy to you.

It adds to your physical as well psychological strength for a rather comfortable delivery. In addition to that if you keep practicing yoga through out your pregnancy period, post delivery you are very likely to resume your normal activities at the earliest.

Prenatal Yoga is particularly helpful in later stage of pregnancy. I would suggest all pregnant women to do yoga exercises that would be of immense help in excess inflammation and pain in leg. This particular genre of yoga is aimed at strengthening legs, back muscles, limbs and pelvis. Once these body parts get strengthened the level of pain that you experience while giving birth would be far less than the pain you would have experienced without yoga.

But you must ensure that you learn prenatal yoga asanas from an experienced Yogi. If you have geared up to practice yoga for the first time, you shouldn't do exercises without acquainting yourself with all pros and cons of Yoga.

For pregnant women, basic yoga poses are suggested. Once they learn basic poses they are made to practice certain other asanas. Preferred yoga asanas for women on family way are as follows:

Shavasana This Yoga posture is also known as corpse pose. In this posture you are simply made to lie as if you are dead. You are suggested to lie in a very motionless state. But you should continue breathing normally.

Padmasana This posture requires you to sit while keeping your back completely erected in the sitting duration. You are also made to put your right leg on the left thigh and vice versa. Putting legs on opposite thighs help strengthen your hips.

Sukhasana The asana demands you to keep a crouching posture while sitting. This asana is of great assistance in preventing pregnancy related disorders.

Vajrasana This asana makes you fold your knees so that hips could be easily postured on your heels. This is also a sitting asana. You are also required to position your hands on knees. Your back should remain erect.

These are a few yoga postures that happen to be of great help for pregnant women. Breathing exercises of yoga may prove helpful in pregnancy. So, do yoga for a safer child birth.

To get more information on yoga, yoga pregnancy and yoga benefits visit www.therealyoga.com

Five Reasons for Yoga Instructors to Teach Chair Yoga

1) Your students truly benefit from it.

Your students will likely be either seniors or those with physical limitations. Especially in the case of someone that has not been exercising at all because of their condition, you will often see rapid improvements. Prospective students sometimes report feeling better after a single class.

Liz knew that she was on to something from that very first demonstration to the senior’s group at our church. After the demo, one of the women rushed up to Liz and put her hands in Liz’ hands. “Do you feel that?” she said, “my hands haven’t felt warm in years!”

While we don't promise miracles (and neither should you!) we've seen chair yoga lower students' blood pressure, cause them to stop needing anti-anxiety medicine, allow them to sleep better, regain height, relieve the symptoms of chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis, and much more. Students' health care professionals will sometimes notice the difference chair yoga is making and ask what they are doing differently. Of course, the patient is always told to keep it up!

2) Your work will be truly appreciated and you’ll hear about it, too.

You will often enjoy having people tell you about all the wonderful things that chair yoga has done to make them more comfortable, healthier, and happier.

Those of us that are younger and don't have a debilitating condition tend to take some things for granted. Chair yoga might help a person raise their arm above their heads to reach something, or turn their head back to check traffic, when they had lost the ability to do so. I think I'd be appreciative, too!

3) Millions of prospective students and growing daily.

I just saw a statistic that blew my mind – one baby boomer turns 50 every 8 seconds!

So much has been said about the value of marketing into the coming boom in baby boomer seniors that I shouldn't have to convince you. Besides, we can all see it happening right before our very eyes.

As a yoga instructor, adding chair yoga to your list of teaching skills is a good way to take advantage of this social phenomenon.

Baby boomers aren't much interested in retiring to sit back in a rocking chair and wait while their bodies deteriorate from disuse. So no matter what age or stage they are in, they will be seeking ways to keep themselves fit.

Baby boomers are more likely to consider alternate approaches to staying healthy than previous generations, so they will be much more likely to be receptive to the notion of practicing yoga. In fact, many will have some sort of prior experience with yoga, as we have seen.

The oldest of the boomers are just now turning 60, so it is a great time to get serious about teaching chair yoga!

4) There is an abundance of ready-made classes to find.

Most yoga classes come about in an organic fashion, adding one or two students at a time. But by teaching chair yoga, you can find yourself starting whole new classes with several customers all at once.

This is because you are often taking the yoga class to the people where they are already congregating. One of the biggest markets for chair yoga is seniors, and seniors are easy to find already in a group together.

Just where to go will vary depending on where you live, but here are a few ideas to get you started thinking about this:

• Retirement villages, retirement centers, assisted living centers, nursing homes

• Adult day care

• Seniors' groups at places of worship

• Community centers/Parks and recreation programs

• Fraternal organizations

• Libraries

• YMCA/YWCA

People suffering from particular ailments such as multiple sclerosis or arthritis tend to get together to help each other cope with the disease. All you have to do is find the organizations in your neighborhood that are addressing this need and approach them with the idea of helping the group practice chair yoga. Yoga has been shown to effectively ease the symptoms of many types of ailments, and yet few have anyplace to go where there is a yoga program appropriate for them.

With some brainstorming you can probably come up with a pretty good list appropriate for the circumstances in your community.

The beauty of approaching these groups is that you almost always are proposing to teach yoga to people that never imagined they'd be in a yoga class. That means you aren't competing with all the yoga teachers trying to capture classes out of the existing pool of practicing yogis and yoginis.

Just how you go about approaching these types of organizations is something that we go into detail about in our Yoga In Chairs teacher training intensives and the materials for the at-home training program.

5) Enjoy having loyal students.

There are many reasons why chair yoga students will be more loyal to you than students in your more traditional classes.

It is likely that they were introduced to yoga by you or by the leadership of the group they are in. Since they never had a notion to seek out yoga before, they will be much less inclined to look for alternative teachers in your area. Plus, as has already been noted, they probably don't have many other chair yoga programs to turn to, even if they wanted to have choices.

If you take the class to the students it is of course easy for them to participate every time you are there.

Most of your chair yoga customers will be mature people who know the value of being considered reliable. This means that when they make a commitment to participate in a program, they likely will follow through.

In fact, Liz' students typically call or email her if they are not able to come to class for some reason. She, in turn, contacts them if she notices they were absent from class, especially if it is longer than a few weeks. By simply staying in touch in an unobtrusive way she retains more students.

If you are a yoga instructor and you aren’t already teaching chair yoga, you are encouraged to do so. Not only will you have more classes to teach, but also you will be making a REAL difference in the world.

Mark Franklin enjoys telling people about Liz Franklin's Yoga In Chairs® because he knows it is helping people live healthier, happier, and longer lives. Today, almost everyone knows someone who says they are practicing Yoga. Many of these new yogis/yoginis are quite dedicated and go to class several times each week.

Let’s take a look at what they are practicing:

Most classes are 60-90 minutes of doing various Yoga poses/stretches/asanas, which can vary from gentle to intense. The intensity will vary from class to class, style to style and teacher to teacher.

And so, the student will say they are practicing Yoga regularly every week.

I do not wish to belittle anyone’s practice or imply that anyone is claiming to be or do something they are not. Yet, the fact remains that this is not Yoga.

To claim that this type of activity represents learning Yoga is similar to someone learning the hand and finger exercises practiced by great pianists and thinking that they are learning to play and indeed, even are playing the piano.

This is not the fault of the student. Imagine if most of the piano teachers only taught these exercises and called the practice “Piano Class.” Why wouldn’t the student feel he/she was learning to play the piano?

Perhaps you are saying that this is silly. After all, great pianists make beautiful music when they are playing. That’s true. However, it is my contention that most people are only aware of the exercises and not what the exercises are meant to prepare them for. It’s as if somehow they never get to hear the music. They only see and hear the exercises. Usually, there is no time and sometimes no desire to learn more in class. Sometimes, the instructors themselves have not been taught more than these exercises, sometimes they do not practice them and sometimes they do not want to lose students who are not ready to transform themselves.

In Reality, classical pianists study the already written works of great composers and try to play them as the composer intended them to sound. Modern jazz pianists try to understand what their fellow musicians are playing and try to make up new, never played before music that fits in perfectly with what is going on around them.

You can play for yourself or you can go play for the enjoyment of others. This is similar to what true Yoga is like. You can study the ancient scriptures or you can go out into the World and practice Yoga in everyday life. You can practice Yoga for your benefit, or for the benefit of others.

I am not saying that going to a Yoga class and stretching for an hour is of no benefit. Not at all. There are plenty of benefits which anyone can and will get from even this limited practice. However, since their practice is on the gross or physical plane, most of the benefits will be limited to this physical plane: Better Health. And so the most Yoga, or Union, they can hope to achieve is that of uniting one part of their body with another, via the flow of their Pranas. I use the plural for Prana because by definition, you cannot unite just one flow. You can only unite separate and different flows.

This is another area where most Western Yoga Instruction falls short. Most instruction is only in the placement of the various body parts. And while it is true, that the flow of one’s Prana will be influenced by where one’s body parts are in relation to each other; this is also low level Yoga. The flow of one’s Prana should be directly regulated and controlled by one’s mind. Of the Yoga classes that do talk about the flow of Prana, they usually talk about the main flow of Prana in the Asana and not the counter flow.

Since Hatha Yoga is the Union of the Ha or the Sun Flows of Energy and the Tha or the Moon Flows of Energy, talking about only one flow means they are practicing either Ha Yoga or Tha Yoga. They cannot be practicing Hatha Yoga.

Most people are not aware that the practice of the Asanas or stretches is actually the third step in the classical school of Raja Yoga. The first step is the practice of 5 Restraints: Non-Harming, Truthfulness, Non-Stealing, Self-Restraint and Non-Possessiveness. The second is the practice of the 5 Observances: Purity, Contentment, Austerity, Self- Study and Surrender to God. (Notice there are 10, as in the 10 Commandments).

The concept behind this is that since the practice of the Yoga Asanas does make you Healthier and does give you more energy regardless of your State of Being, if you have not become a better person first, all the Yoga Asanas will have accomplished is making you better able to carry out your gross impulses. This is what happened to Darth Vader. He practiced the exercises of a Jedi Knight and they only fed the Flaws in his character.

My Yoga Teacher, Yogiraj Swami Bua, Maharaja of Hatha Yoga, sums this up when he says; “The Lotus Pose will not take you to Heaven.”

Another way of looking at this is: Yoga is Union. How can one claim to practice Union only a few hours a week? Do we get married for a few hours a week? (OK. I can hear all the humorous comments about marriage this will generate.) I think we can legitimately question the validity of using the term Union to refer to a fleeting or very temporary State of Being.

By this, I do not mean we are not practicing Yoga unless we are in the State of Union. I mean we must be trying to be in the State of Union. Whether we succeed or not, is another question.

My purpose in writing this article is to try and stop Yoga from following in the foot steps of the many Ancient Traditions which have been reduced by the market place to nothing but a hollow shell of their true selves.

There is no money to be made in not giving people what they want. Therefore, I hope this article will inspire some to examine what they want and lead them to true Yoga.

For more information about Gary Giamboi's or Swami Bua's views on Yoga, please go to http://www.genbukan.biz/disciplines_yoga.html

Enjoy Yoga with a Good and Comfortable Yoga Mat

Yoga is known to be a very relaxing exercise. It is popular not just a Hindu ritual but also a proven way to stay fit and healthy. It is more than just a form of meditation but more like an exercise regimen for many people around the world. But like all other exercise, there are equipments used in the practice of yoga. And probably one of the most important equipment for exercising yoga is the yoga mat.

A yoga mat can either be a big and thick towel, a rug or you can also buy a special yoga mat from sport shops. Most yoga mats that you can find around are made of cotton or polyester latex. There are premium made mats and there are regular mats as well. There are also a choice of natural mats and synthetic yoga mats. It is important though that you know how to choose the yoga mat that's right for you. This is essential in a comfortable and relaxing practice of yoga.

There are different things you need to consider in choosing the right yoga mat for you. The first and foremost thing that you should keep in mind while choosing a mat is what type of yoga you practice. Now, there are different yoga mats intended to be used for the different yoga styles. If you are practicing a yoga style that requires jumping from one form to another, like the Ashtanga yoga, you need a mat that are really thick and can provide you a good cushion. If while doing yoga, you sweat a lot, you need a mat that has the capability to absorb it and the best choice would be a cotton yoga mat. Other considerations to make when choosing a yoga mat are more of your personal choices. Of course you have the final say in choosing the color and the make of the mat. There are some people who prefer natural yoga mat made of hemp to feel closer to nature. But since these types may cause allergies to some people, you should also give this a careful consideration. You should also consider the place where you do your yoga exercise. If you're doing your exercise in a slippery tiled floor, you should always buy a sticky yoga mat to avoid slipping.

The practice of yoga would not be complete without the proper tools and equipment. You should always remember that in any exercise, it is important that you are comfortable while doing it. It is a key to enjoying and relaxing while doing the exercise you've chosen. And since yoga mat is a very important part of the yoga practice, you should choose the right mat for you.

Jeff Dodd is an expert in Yoga Pilates Mats. People that practice yoga view that the mind and body are one and that if given the right tools, it can find harmony and find a way to heal. Practicing yoga is then considered to be a form of therapy. Awareness of posture and patterns of movement, flexibility and relaxation are only a few of the things that can be achieved with the practice. To feel fit, be more energetic, be happier and more at peace are only some of the reasons why people choose to practice yoga.

Yoga dates back to thousands of years of practice, consisting of ancient theories, observations and principles about the connection between mind and body that are now proven by modern day medicine. Research has proven that there are a lot of health benefits, whether physiological, psychological or biochemical, that can be obtained through the practice of yoga.

Some of the physiological benefits include a decrease in pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure which in other words would mean that the cardiovascular and respiratory efficiencies increase which can help in the increase of immunity. Bodily functions like gastrointestinal, endocrine and excretory either normalizes or improves which can help in the normalization of weight. Musculoskeletal flexibility and joint range of motion increase which can help in the improvement of posture, dexterity, balance and the integrated functioning of body parts. In essence, gaining all of that can help decrease any pains in the joints or muscles. With the practice of yoga, endurance, energy level and even eye-hand coordination improves. Weight can also normalize.

The psychological benefits of yoga include the increased awareness of somatic and kinesthetic waves, improvement of mood and subjective well-being which subsequently increases social adjustment. With a calmer mind, concentration, memory, attention and learning efficiency can also improve.

The biochemical benefits of yoga are effects of some of the physiological benefits. Levels of glucose, sodium, bad cholesterol and triglycerides decrease while levels of good cholesterol, cholinesterase, ATP, hemoglobin, vitamin C and serum protein increase. These changes are all beneficial for a healthier body.

Apart from all of this, the benefits of yoga have been compared versus that of the benefits of regular exercise. With the slow dynamic and static movements of yoga, there is a lower risk of injury to muscles and ligaments as opposed to regular exercise routines due to the lesser effort and relaxed way of movement which subsequently makes for better energizing since breathing is not taxed. There is also a more balanced activity of opposing muscle groups, thus being able to gain a normalized muscle tone instead of getting bulky.

Yoga does not need to be for people that are extremely flexible. It can be for people that are looking to improve on their flexibility or other areas of their physical or mental health. With these many benefits, it’s no wonder why yoga has been a successful practice for thousands of years.

The author is a health advocate and believes there are many ways you can increase your health and fitness levels go here to get more on yoga and equipment used Mat Yoga Reviews.

Yoga: Three Reasons You Should Not Do Yoga Posture - Lotus

The Lotus – (Padmasana)

Years of consistent effort may be needed to make this advanced posture feasible.

In a Sanskrit language ‘Padma’ means ‘Lotus’ and in this posture the position of the legs look like a blooming lotus, hence the name. The position of the crossed legs and the erect back keeps the mind alert and attentive, which is why the Lotus posture has been given a great importance in yoga practice as it is best suited for concentration and meditation.

The Lotus is a wonderful yoga posture but it is not practical for most Westerners as a meditative posture. It places a lot of stress on the knee and hip joints, and should be approached with caution, mostly by the novices.

The Lotus stimulates the pelvis, spine, abdomen, and the bladder. The sacral nerves are tones as the flow of blood to the legs is redirected to the abdominal area, stimulating the digestive process. It applies pressure to the lower spine which has a relaxing effect on the nervous system.

The posture creates a natural balance throughout the body and the mind. When the knees and ankles are stretched enough to remain in the Lotus without discomfort, the posture creates a feeling of effortlessness. As the body becomes steady the mind becomes calm.

The Lotus is a beautiful posture with lots of benefits. However, in some health conditions this posture should not be practiced.

Three important reasons not to do Lotus posture:

1) If you have weak or injured knees avoid doing this posture as it places lots of stress on the knees.

2) If you suffer from sciatica do not attempt this posture.

3) In case of ankle injury do not practice this posture.

Caution: Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts or concerns regarding the suitability of this posture for you. It is best to perform this yoga posture in presence of a qualified yoga teacher.

Issued in the interest of people practicing Hatha Yoga by Subodh Gupta, Yoga Expert based in London.

Mr.Subodh Gupta, a Corporate Yoga Trainer has conducted more than 500 workshops on Yoga and Stress Management. The body in this pose resembles that of a bird, thus the names, crane or crow. The Crow is a moderate inverted balancing posture, which builds strength in the upper extremities (arms, forearms, elbow joints, hands, wrists, clavicle, and scapula) and gives you the confidence to begin work with the Headstand and the Handstand. The Crow requires courage (to risk falling on your nose) and hip flexibility (to bring the thighs alongside the chest).

The Crow is one of the yoga poses that actually looks a lot harder than it really is and it requires much more coordination, concentration and awareness than the muscular strength in the upper arms.

As you hold this asana the chest is immobilized so that you can only breathe abdominally. Remember to keep your attention on the breath because this asana brings the habit of holding the breath as you focus on the balancing act.

This asana reinforces the arm, shoulder and abdominal muscles, wrists and the upper torso. It stretches and lubricates the joints, tendons and ligaments of the upper body. It tones the abdominal organs and opens the groins.

The Crow pose increases both physical and mental balance, concentration and tranquility. It balances the nervous system, brings lightness to the body and prepares the mind for meditation. Although the Crow pose gives us tremendous benefits for the mind and the body, in some health conditions this pose is not safe to be performed.

Three important reasons not to do Crow:

1) Do not practice this pose if you have a carpal tunnel syndrome (It is compression of the median nerve at the wrist, which may result in numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle atrophy in the hand and fingers. The disease typically affects the thumb, index, and middle fingers and is often particularly troublesome at night).

2) In any stage of pregnancy do not attempt this pose.

3) If you have high blood pressure, avoid this asana.

One of the most popular questions for anyone new to yoga is: "What's the best kind of yoga mat for me?"

There are many different kinds of yoga mat from which you can choose. Many are made from polyester latex, and have a slip-resistant surface. "Sticky" mats, which have a textured synthetic surface, are also very popular. Practitioners of styles like Ashtanga yoga, and Bikram yoga often prefer to use both a sticky mat and a rug, placing the rug over the sticky mat.

Of course, you don't need to buy a yoga mat if you don't want to: can just use a thick towel, or a rug, as your yoga mat.

Your choice of yoga mat is also influenced by where you'll be exercising.

Where Will You Do Your Yoga Exercises?

If you're doing your yoga in front of the TV on a carpeted floor, you can just use a thick towel, or a folded blanket. On the other hand, if you're taking lessons at a yoga studio, it's awkward to carry a blanket, so ring the studio before you start, and ask what kind of mat they recommend. They may even sell yoga mats. Sticky and other mats are often sold with a carrier, so you can sling the mat over your shoulder on your way to practice.

Eco Yoga Mats For a Cleaner Environment

In the past few years, environmentally conscious types of yoga mats have become popular. The older styles of mats are made from PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride). Since the manufacture of PVC releases toxins into the atmosphere, "eco" mats have been created from materials like cotton, jute and rubber.

So the kind of yoga mat you choose is up to you. Have fun with your yoga. It's your time to refresh, relax, and be with yourself. Of the many different types of yoga mat, you'll find the perfect one for you.

Discover more about yoga at Easy Fab Yoga at http://www.easyfabyoga.com/, and Easy Fab Yog Blog at http://www.easyfabyoga.com/blog/

Yoga Clothing Guide - Always Buy the Best Yoga Clothes

Comfortable and breathable clothes that are usually worn at the time of yoga are known as yoga clothes.

The Sanskrit word ‘tri’ means three and ‘kona’ means corner or angle, hence the name. When you look at this pose you can easily notice why this name has been given to this asana. From the completed posture the body forms three angles; the legs form one, the arm extended down and the body forms another, and the arm extended upward and the head and neck form the third.

In our ordinary day-to-day life the side stretch is the least common movement. We twist, we bend back or forward, but except that we do not often bend our spine to the side, and that’s why the Triangle is one of the most important postures in yoga practice.

The Triangle gives an excellent lateral stretch to the spine, toning the spinal nerves and improving balance and concentration. The muscles of the thighs, calves, hamstring, knees and ankles are stretched, promoting flexibility in the hips and legs.

This asana strengthens the pelvic area and tones the reproductive organs. It massages and strengthens the thyroid glands, kidneys and the adrenal glands to function in a better way. It stimulates the abdominal organs and improves digestion.

Regular practice of Triangle will help reduce waistline fat.

Important: Do not let your hip tilt outward or forward or you will lose the valuable stretch.

The Triangle pose practiced safely is a very beneficial asana; however, there are some health conditions in which this posture should be avoided.

Three important reasons not to do Triangle:

1) Anyone suffering from back condition should not practice this pose.
2) If you are having headaches avoid doing this asana.
3) In case of having diarrhea do not attempt this pose.

Caution: Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts or concerns regarding the suitability of this pose for you.

For Beginners: As a beginner you most probably will support the weight of the torso with one of your arm, forearm and the hand and the torso can remain relaxed. The importance of this pose is to learn how to come out of it without hurting yourself. When you decide to come up the weight of your upper body will have to be supported only by your internal muscles, which may not be ready for the effort. That’s why the safe way to come out of the Triangle is by tightening the muscles of your legs, thighs and hips, which will recruit more muscles in the pelvis and torso.

Issued in the interest of people practicing Hatha Yoga by Subodh Gupta, Yoga Expert based in London.

Mr.Subodh Gupta, a Corporate Yoga Trainer has conducted more than 500 workshops on Yoga and Stress Management. When this asana is exhibited, it resembles a male peacock with a long plume of colorful feathers trailing behind.

A successful Peacock pose depends to a great extent on the body type and weight distribution. Anyone with a big chest and small hips and thighs will not have much difficulty to achieve this pose. But a person with a small chest and big hips and legs will find this pose very difficult to complete and held (that’s why most women find this pose very difficult to perform).

The Peacock develops more intra-abdominal pressure than any other posture, because the abdomen-pelvic unit is supporting the weight of the body through the elbows and arms. Because of the increased pressure on the abdomen the blood is directed to the digestive organs, invigorating and toning the liver, pancreas, stomach, bowels and spleen. This is a wonderful asana for improving digestion.

This pose requires very flexible hands and wrists and great deal of concentration. In the beginning this asana should be held for a few seconds and than slowly increasing the duration of the practice. The Peacock develops mental and physical balance, strengthens the muscles of the whole body and develops muscular control. The Peacock pose has many benefits; however, there are some health conditions in which this asana should never be performed.

Three important reasons (out of many) not to do Peacock:

1) Pregnant women are strongly advised not to practice this asana.

2) Anyone having hernia should never attempt this pose.

3) If you have peptic ulcer (a sore painful place inside stomach caused by action of pepsin) avoid this posture.

Caution: Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts or concerns regarding the suitability of this pose for you.

Important Note: The Peacock pose speeds up the circulation and increases the amount of toxins in the blood as part of the process of purification. Therefore, this pose should never be practiced before any inverted asana as it may direct excess toxins to the brain. This asana is best to be performed at the end of the yoga session.

Issued in the interest of people practicing Hatha Yoga by Subodh Gupta, Yoga Expert based in London.

Mr.Subodh Gupta, a Corporate Yoga Trainer has conducted more than 500 workshops on Yoga and Stress Management. The Camel is an advanced and powerful yoga posture, which should be only practiced by intermediate and advanced students in a full version. It opens up the whole front of the body and stimulates the respiratory, circulatory, nervous and endocrine systems.

The Camel is a posture that should be done after the body is warmed up sufficiently as it provides a quite deep backbend. The posture is a transition between the simpler prone backbend, the Bow pose (Dhanuranasa) and the more challenging backbend, the Wheel (Chakrasana).

After completing the Camel posture, always release the lower back by going into the counter pose, the Child’s pose (Shashankasana) and stay there for a while.

The Camel is very beneficial for the digestive and reproductive systems. It stretches the stomach and intestines. This difficult backward bend loosens up the vertebrae and stimulates the spinal nerves, relieving rounded shoulders.

It stretches the spine, back muscles, shoulders and arms. It improves flexibility of the spine and improves posture. It opens the throat as it strengthens the neck muscles and increases blood flow to the brain.

It is a good workout for the ankles, thighs and groins, and it helps to tone the calf, neck and abdominal muscles.

The Camel has many benefits for the practitioner; however, in some health conditions this posture should not be practiced.

Three important reasons (out of many) not to do yoga posture – Camel:

1) Anyone with recent or chronic knee or neck injury should not do this posture.

2) If you are suffering from lumbago (mild to severe pain or discomfort in the area of the lower back. The pain can be acute or chronic if it has lasted more than three months), avoid this yoga posture.

3) In case of hernia do not attempt this posture.

Caution: Always check with your doctor if you have any doubts or concerns regarding the suitability of this pose for you. Cannabis is smoked in a joint and yoga exercises help relax the joints. Let us focus on the how the natural way is the legal way to ease troubled minds, aches and pains.

The Natural way comes with no prison sentence.

Yoga exercises - moves and postures are easily practiced but most importantly should be supervised under the guidance from a master in the field of yoga. Tutorial videos are quite popular among the housebound. People with an illness that prevents them leaving the house can still follow the thousands of Yogis world wide by practising yoga exercises in the comfort of their own home.

One of the top reasons for why yoga exercises are performed on a wide scale is due to stress related concerns. Anxiety and sufferers of depression have seen the difference in themselves after learning yoga. Doctors are now referring their patients to join local yoga classes. Doctors realize that this is a safe natural mental medicinal medication which can ease symptoms of different types of illnesses and disorders. (Depending on the illness)

For beginners who are attending a class for the first time you can expect your yoga exercises to be light movements. This may entail short workouts on twists, balance, sit up poses and different other moves. You may also find that there is a time limit on how much you do in the first few stages of your yoga exercises due to you being a novice.

Once you have become familiar with what ever type of yoga you have chosen to practice - it is then you will begin to notice the change in your whole approach towards practice sessions. By practicing yoga exercises on a regular basis you will notice the flexibility of how the body alters in a very relieving manner.

If you are not sure of the type of yoga that best suits your needs then talk with a yoga master. The Practice of yoga exercises due to health matters should not go ahead until you speak with your doctor - this goes for any exercises you intend on taking up.

Yoga is not a cure and has no magical powers where you regain sight after years of living in darkness nor can it cure the deaf from their world of silence but one thing it can do is work MIRACLES on the mind. This is done by positive thoughts inserted into the mind by your own way of thinking where you take what is rightfully yours and that is contentment.

100% fit in mind body and soul is what healthy living is all about. With yoga you claim what is rightfully yours control. http://www.want2yoga.com Take steps now to move on with your life http://www.allaboutonlineeducation.com

Yoga: Three Reasons You Should Not Do Yoga Posture - Bridge

The Bridge – (Setu Bandhasana)

The Bridge pose is also known as Setu Bandhasana, which means construction of a bridge. In this posture, the whole body forms an arch which is supported at one end by the crown of the head and at the other on the feet, hence the name.

When the Bridge is performed immediately after the Plough pose it acts as a gentle counter pose to complement the benefits of Shoulderstand (Sarvangasana) and the Plough (Halasana). It releases any tension that may have built up in the thoracic (part from the neck to waist) and lumbar (lower part of the back) regions of the spine while practicing the two previous asanas.

Tightness in the back and spine results from poor posture, stress and a sedentary lifestyle. This pose is a wonderful way to ease tension in the shoulders, upper and in the lower back. The Bridge can reverse the strain of sitting at a desk or computer all day. It will help to pull back the shoulders, which may tend to roll forward while sitting.

Unlike many backbends, this asana can be hold for longer period of time without risking injury to the lower back, because the back is protected by the working of strong leg muscles.

This asana strengthen the back, arms, shoulders, buttocks and thighs, promoting flexibility of the spine. It strengthens arches of the feet, ankles, hamstrings (tendon behind the knee) and triceps (large muscle at the back of the upper arm) and it rejuvenates tired legs.

The Bridge stretches the chest and the neck. It opens the heart and lungs, stimulates the abdominal organs and regulates the thyroid and endocrine system. It increases blood circulation.

Note: The Bridge is a good preparatory posture for the Wheel pose.

Although the Bridge posture is a safe and excellent asana with huge benefits, there are some health conditions in which this pose should not be practice.

Three important reasons (out of many) not to do the Bridge:

1) If you have any problem with your knees avoid practicing this pose as it is places a lot of tension on the knees.

2) In case of neck, shoulder or spinal injury this pose should be avoided.

3) Not advised in a last trimester of a pregnancy (6–9 months).

This intimate practice offers escapism, peace of mind and a sense of stability for all who endeavour to learn. By embracing yoga you will be opened up to a whole new perspective on life.

Learn Yoga…

Yoga can provide a foundation for living and constant direction in your life. Astanga is one of the most common form of yoga practised. It was handed down from Rishi Vamana, through a long lineage of Masters and is practiced around the world today. Qualified yoga instructors are certified through Yoga Alliance International, which enables them to share the yoga experience with others.

Yoga is more than simply poses and stretches, it focuses on calming the mind and strengthening the body. Therefore, instructors always ensure a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone – from beginners through to veterans. Rejuvenative yoga covers subtle techniques for creating an understanding of our body through releasing tension, mainly from the hips and shoulders.

Yoga Nidra is another practiced type of yoga, which literally translates to “sleep of the yogis." It is used to prepare mentally and physically prior to seeking deeper levels of consciousness and awareness through meditation. Yoga Nidra is enjoyed so much because it gives a feeling of total relaxation, and is often practiced by enthusiasts daily. It is one of the most powerful opportunities that people can take in order to escape from the tension of materialistic life.

Live Yoga…

Our hectic modern day lives tend to make us lose touch with ourselves; however by embracing the practice of yoga, this can be overcome. In philosophical terms yoga means a refined rejuvenative reunion with ‘self,’ a journey of self-discovery. This practice restores the body and mind to its fundamental state of well-being, peace, and vibrant alertness. It encourages balance and harmony in all areas of life in addition to assisting with the rehabilitation of injuries.

When practiced traditionally Astnaga Yoga is a 6 day a week exercise. Once introduced to the yoga, many find it inescapable and integrate it as a regular activity in their daily lives. Those who practise yoga will experience increased flexibility and toning of muscles. Yoga has also been proven to assist in preventing illness and supports an entirely healthy and invigorated mind, body and soul.

Love Yoga…

It is important to realise we don’t need to buy something material to make us feel good. Yoga activists acquire a sense of increased physical strength and flexibility, in addition to greater concentration and general well-being. What could be better than treating your mind and body to an intimate practise that serves to benefit your well being?

The opening prayer for the practice of yoga reads as: “Because I want more peace of mind and stability in life, I faithfully practice yoga as it has been passed down by the gurus.” Yoga allows for the creation of peace as well as physical, mental and spiritual awareness and escapism.

Of those who seek to learn yoga, many end up living it and loving it.

Sheridan Hammond is founder of Samudra Surf & Yoga Retreats. Give yourself a fantastic break and go on a yoga retreat, yoga holiday or yoga vacation. Yoga retreats cater for all, from the novice to the masters and no matter what level you are, you will benefit immensely from the experience.

The focus at yoga retreats is on increasing your yoga abilities, getting rid of stress and enjoying it with like-minded people. They are run by professionals who know what they are doing and can help you to get the most from your yoga practices.

You will find yoga retreats and yoga holidays advertised. While there are some distinctions between the two, they are not always clearly defined. Make sure you ask when making your enquiries as to what is included in the course. Things like the time allocated to yoga sessions, meditation etc.

With a yoga vacation the schedule is usually more relaxed with spare time for you to take in a few sights and get to know the other people on the course. Where the vacation is located should have some sight seeing attractions close by.

A yoga retreat will be more structured as far as your yoga activities go while on the course, sessions, meditation, quiet times, the meals. Normally these retreat locations are situated in a peaceful area, close to nature and mostly are fully residential. While these retreats are usually for the more serious minded, if you wish to take your yoga to a higher level, then a yoga retreat could be just what you want.

The prices of these retreats and vacations will vary. You could reasonably expect to pay the equivalent of a week's stay in vacation type hotel. The cost will include your room and meals as they take the approach that your diet has a very important part to play in your overall yoga activities. They hope to teach you how to eat correctly and so benefit more from your yoga practices. So the cost is all-inclusive, your room, meals and yoga lessons, activities and access to the yoga instructors for help and guidance.

How To Go About Finding Yoga Retreats

There is any number of yoga retreats across the country. From the east coast to the west coast you will find plenty of retreat locations, so there should be one relatively close to you. If you’d prefer to be at a more exotic location, there are yoga retreats in the Caribbean, Virgin Islands, Europe and Asia. Keep in mind though these locations are likely to be more expensive than a domestic yoga retreat.

The best place to start your search for a yoga retreat is with your yoga studio. There could even be some great packages available. Often times the studio will negotiate for a group booking, which could be a big saving and you will be with others you know.

The other option is the Internet. If you do a search online for yoga retreats in the USA, yoga retreats in Costa Rica, find a yoga retreat in Connecticut or wherever you happen to live then you can investigate what is available and what is provided during the retreat.

If you choose a yoga retreat, then maybe going on your own and meeting other yoga enthusiasts could be more beneficial. For a yoga vacation, then going with a friend who also practices yoga may be a better option as you will have someone to share the experience and the free time with.

By taking advantage of a yoga retreat or yoga vacation, whether you have just started yoga or wanting to expand your knowledge, you will benefit enormously. Yoga retreats and vacations are open to all who partake in yoga and have been established to enhance the yoga experience for everyone.
